About Zetland Psychotherapy in Zetland

Juliet Hurwitz of Zetland Psychotherapy is a psychotherapist, counsellor and consultant social worker. She is skilled in a wide range of areas that can offer assistance with almost any problem that you, your relationship or your family may be experiencing.

Zetland Psychotherapy is a boutique practice offering exceptional general psychotherapy and counselling services in a comfortable, private home office located in the East Village in Zetland, Eastern Sydney. Zetland Psychotherapy is within walking distance from Green Square Station, is close to bus services and there is free onsite undercover parking.

Zetland Psychotherapy provides no-gap therapy under the Medicare Better Access to Mental Health Care system with a suitable referral from your GP. Depending on your health care needs, following the initial course of treatment (a maximum of six services but may be less depending on your clinical need), you can return to your GP or psychiatrist/paediatrician and obtain a new referral to obtain an additional four sessions to a maximum of ten individual and ten group services per calendar year.

The words Counselling and Psychotherapy are often used together. For Juliet Hurwitz, however, there is a difference. People may be more comfortable with the word counselling as it may feel less intrusive. Counselling is generally regarded to be shorter term work dealing with specific issues. Psychotherapy, on the other hand, is a deeper way of working.

Zetland Psychotherapy uses Psycho-Dynamic Psychotherapy. Within this framework there is strong emphasis on the development of the relationship between the client and the therapist. This is a crucial aspect of our approach and is a very important part of the healing process. Also fundamental to our style is the importance of early life experiences, as these can often provide valuable insight into the current difficulties being experienced.

Individual Therapy is suitable if the difficulty you are struggling with is essentially an individual one. Of course your issues may well cause concern to your loved ones but this would still be individual work. Sometimes people only need six to ten sessions. Others may need six months, a year or longer. Each person is unique and the treatment will be tailored accordingly.

Zetland Psychotherapy offers several different types of Couples Counselling: Preparation For Marriage, Relationship Difficulties Counselling, Same Sex Relationship Counselling and we also work with couples Contemplating Separation. A cornerstone of couple therapy, on the part of the therapist, is neutrality. Our client is your relationship. While we may give one of you more attention at different times in the process, it is the relationship between you that is our concern.

If you are finding that the environment at home is unhappy then maybe it is necessary for the whole family to come along. Sometimes this can include extended family members, for example, a grandparent. If we get a call from a parent saying they are having significant problems with a particular child, I may well suggest that the whole family come along.
